This, in turn, helps them maintain an open and ethical implementation process, whether it is subject to scrutiny or not. Good governance also encourages the people at the helm of power to be confident of what they are doing. They feel better about the way they conduct business if there is proper and effective governance. The leaders will thus be confident that their views will be considered and also respected even if there are not that popular. They will also be able to provide honest and fearless advice to their superiors on matters concerning the people. The elevation of good governance concerns not only the government sector but also the other relevant players in the in the society as well as the private sector. The three should be able to pivot on common goals and balance their interests. These should include aiming at the reduction of poverty and ensuring that every person has access to state services. They should also aim at making the administrative structures efficient and involving so as to generate solutions for the challenges that they face. In the industrial sector, it is evident that investor confidence is accrued to not only corporate profitability but also good governance. Investors are always lining up to invest in companies that show high standards of governance. This can be attested by the fact that countries in the United Arab Emirates. They have good governance and as a result, there is positive economic development in the region. For instance, Dubai has developed to become an economic hub in the world, despite the fact that democracy is not strongly present. However, the governance there is excellent.

It has been noted that the current financial crisis in the world is as a result of the weaknesses in the governance institutions. This is because these institutions create the conditions for the operations of the private sector, the functioning of markets and strength of the citizens and the welfare of the people. Therefore, quality governance is fundamental if these conditions are to be favorable for the particular people. The governance systems thus affect directly the execution of important functions of the government and consequently the realization of economic and social goals.

Good governance is based on the reliability and the predictability of the rule of law. The decisions made by the government and the private firms must, therefore, be within the law and the law should protect these decisions. Reliable governance is free from explicit incentives, which may include corruption or nepotism. Reliable governance will always guarantee the protection of property and personal rights. This will lead to the achievement of social stability, and thus firms and individuals will always be able to make good decisions. Reliability, however, requires the presence of political stability. The government has to convince the private sector of the commitments it has made to ensure that their decisions are not subject to change in the eventuality of political unrest.

There are countries such as Mongolia who have practiced democracy for over two decades yet their development rate is discouraging. Poverty levels in the country have continued to increase over time, raising the question over the necessity of democracy in the development of a nation. On the other hand, Arab countries continue to show high rates of development despite the fact that democracy is not openly practiced there. China which also is not a democratic state has continued to prosper economically as well as nationally and so has Singapore. Therefore, it can be seen that democracy does not in any way by itself guarantee that a country will develop by simply practicing it.

In conclusion, the importance of good governance in development cannot be understated. It ensures the equitable distribution of resources and hence development in all parts of a country. Also, it helps ensure that leaders in office do not misuse their power and are accountable for any decisions that they make. People entrusted with the running of public projects will thus do so in a stipulated manner and with utmost dedication and transparency. Any revenue collected will thus be properly used. Good governance aids reforms in policies. This ensures that all the people are able to enjoy the resources present rather than the advantaged few. A government that exercises good governance will always have the backing of its citizens since they will always feel that the decisions that are made are in their best interest. However, good governance cannot only be left at the hands of the government. The people, as well as the private investors, have a role to play in the achieving of good governance. They should always support the government in its undertakings and also give their views on the implementation of certain projects. They should also speak out if they feel that something is going astray.  Leaders should also enact laws that will favor good governance. If this is looked into, then countries will realize development, whether democracy is practiced or not.
